-       “We began to realize that if we wanted to change our situation, we first had to change ourselves.  And to change ourselves effectively, we first had to change our perceptions” (18)

-       “You always reap what you sow; there is no shortcut” (22)

-       “…what we are communicates far more eloquently than anything we say or do.  We all know it.  There are people we trust absolutely because we know their character.  Whether they’re eloquent or not, whether they have the human relations techniques or not, we trust them, and we work successfully with them” (22)

-       “We see the world, not as it is, but as we are- or, as we are conditioned to see it” (28)

-       “To try to change outward attitudes and behaviors does very little good in the long run if we fail to examine the basic paradigm from which those attitudes and behaviors flow” (28)
